Release of four French nationals held in Ouagadougou since December 2023 following mediation by HM King Mohammed VI

Following the mediation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, His Excellency Mr Ibrahim Traoré, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso, has responded favourably to His request for the release of four French nationals who have been held in Ouagadougou since December 2023, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Resident Abroad.

This humanitarian act was made possible thanks to the excellent relations between His Majesty the King and President Traoré and the good relations that have long united the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Burkina Faso, the ministry said in a press release.

The release of the four Frenchmen is also a reminder of Morocco’s international influence under the leadership of its sovereign and of the excellence of the kingdom’s relations with France and the French people, observers say.
They point out that this release is further proof of Morocco’s persuasiveness and international influence under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Through this eminently humanitarian mediation, they believe, Morocco is playing in the big league thanks to the credibility enjoyed by the Sovereign in the concert of nations, particularly with Burkina Faso and France.
