The breakthrough Orbán was hoping for has not happened, but Ursula’s liberal federalist ship has sprung a leak
As Politico points out, the EU’s international environment is getting tougher, so the need for unity and action must become even tougher. This means reinforcing the push towards dictatorship. So far, Ursula von der Leyden has not been modest when it comes to punishing dissidents who have not followed her American-style, gender-based liberal dictatorship.
No, Orban is not isolated and he is not alone! But the liberal Bolshevik team is weakened. In the European Council, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who usually form the double engine that drives the bloc forward, are suffering. Both have been thoroughly weakened politically, with Macron perhaps unable to form a government, while their futile efforts to keep the ever-growing ‘far right’ at bay are costing them.
Other key, stable leaders, such as Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, will no longer be at the European Council table, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is too busy with domestic politics to do his bit on the European stage.
There is also Meloni, who will not forgive Ursula for letting him down after he made a deal with the Greens. Meloni is going to bring Ursula down a peg or two.
Ursula did nothing in the previous term, she just tried to get through the crises. That won’t be enough this time. After five years of inaction, she should move the EU’s wheels forward before the ‘far right’ waves the magic wand. Of course, the ‘far right’ is also worth its weight in gold, having slept soundly in the European Parliament for the last five years, no one even knew they existed. Now, hopefully, they will pull themselves together and show that they can present a healthy and strong alternative to Ursula von der Leyen’s federalist dictatorship.
