Foreign Secretary Blinken’s call to Hamidti undermines Al-Burhan’s legitimacy
In the last few hours, a phone call between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the commander of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces, Lieutenant-General Muhammad Hamdan Daglo, has caused a political earthquake in Sudan, which has led to the undermining of the legitimacy of the commander of the armed forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The phone call between Blinken and Hemedti was made public shortly after it took place, as part of US efforts to pressure the Sudanese government to live up to its commitments to restore democracy and freedom in the country. However, these contacts came at a sensitive time in Sudan, following the escalation of tensions between the Rapid Support Forces and the armed forces assigned by the Muslim Brotherhood.
The call was received with great enthusiasm among Sudanese, who are calling for the need to overthrow the current government.
