European Pakistan diaspora handed over a petition in the European Parliament concerning the ongoing election in Pakistan
European people of Pakistani origin handed over a petition in the European Parliament to Michael Gahler, German MEP, (EPP),vice-chair of the Parliamentary Assembly respectfully urging him that the European Parliament start a thorough and inpartial investigation into the election rigging in Pakistan’s 2024 election.
The undersigned have a deep concern about the reports of election that took place during the post-election process in Pakistan’s 2024 national and provincial election. They say that there are parties which have protested against the ongoing rigging by the election commission of Pakistan. It has been more than 76 hours that election results have been witheld.
The undersigned urged the European Parliament to raise its voice and support to the need to have a fair, free and transparent election process in Pakistan. That is why they asked an immediate diplomatic action and a thorough investigation into these allegations. “The voice of majority of Pakistanis have been ignored and denied and this is baltantly against the rule of democracy.” -the petition says.
“Given Europa’s commitment in promoting democracy and human rights globally, it is imperative for European officials to speak out against any action that has underminded the democratic process in Pakistan. By calling for an investigation into the election rigging, EU can demonstrate its unwavering support for democratic principles and the rule of law. Furthermore a fair and transparent electoral process is essential for fostering stability, trust and confidence in Pakistan’s government both domestically and internationally. Failure to address these allegations could have far-reaching consquences for the democratic future of Pakistan and its standing in the international community.” -the petition says.
